David Walker | St Katharine's Organist

BA (Hons), MSc, PGCE, FIIA

Having grown up in Stamford, Lincolnshire, I initially practised on the organ which was also played by a fellow peer, the young Sir Malcom Sargent. My first live music performance was at the local Methodist Youth Club, which led me on to frontline bands at school dances and perform in major concerts and on local radio stations.

While studying at university and qualifying as a secondary school teacher, I became a church organist, wrote a number of choral settings and chants, dabbled in folk with a residency at Kings Lynn Folk Club, and led and directed several small bands. Since then, I have also acted as an Auditor with a government department.

As a working singer and pianist, I have played at parish churches in Rutland, Orpington, Erith and Croydon and sung with local concert choirs and operatic groups, as well as writing and performing in Victoria and Melbourne, Australia.
