Youth Choirs

Within our two parishes we are very fortunate to have two professionally qualified and experienced musicians as organists, who are both very involved with our choirs.

St Katharine's, Knockholt, has a Youth Choir (Year 2 upwards) which currently meets on Thursday evenings in term-time at 6.30pm to rehearse for around an hour, led by our talented organist, David. You don't have to pass an audition to join, and you can just come along to listen and find out what we do. Older youngsters whose voices are changing can still carry on singing too. We sing at the Family Service on the fourth Sunday of each month, and at some other services like Easter, Christmas and weddings. The Choir follows the Royal School of Church Music's Voice for Life scheme. This caters for all musical abilities, and even complete beginners can learn how to develop their voice and perform quite complex music.

St Margaret's, Halstead, has a Youth Choir (again Year 2 upwards) which meets twice a month on Wednesday evenings (5.45pm - 6.45pm) to rehearse, and they sing during the Family Service on the first Sunday of each month. The RSCM Voice for Life awards system is followed, which gives the children the opportunity to work on various aspects of singing and musicianship in order to gain graded awards, without placing a lot of extra work on them. The Choir is led by Clare, an experienced specialist music teacher, ably assisted by our wonderful organist, Brian.
